Former Chief Vet prepares Students for Veterinary Careers

Recently, the College had the privilege of hosting the former Chief Veterinary Office for Wales, Professor Christianne Glossop, who kindly spared the time to visit students before she embarks on the next stage of her impressive career. Christy completed her BVET and PhD at the Royal Veterinary College, and was later appointed an Honorary Professor followed by a Fellowship in 2012. Christy is also a fellow of the Royal Agricultural Society.
Christy's work as Chief Vet for Wales was also central in the founding of the Veterinary College at Aberystwyth University, with close links to the Royal Veterinary College for their students.
Christy provided individual mock interviews for our second year veterinary applicants, asking demanding questions about the students' personal statements, interests and work experience, before drawing them into looking at current issues for the veterinary profession. They discussed topics such as mental health in the workforce, the impact of bird flu, and antibiotic use. She also gave extensive feedback to each student for them to develop before going to their real interviews, which was an invaluable experience.
Christy then gave a talk to a larger group on her career as a vet, from work experience as a young person, to working internationally with governments and stakeholders. Christy's overiding message to the students was for them to find a career they loved.
One student said: "Christianne was the most inspiring person I have ever met".
